Marriage Notes for John Oaks and Mary Ann Jessy (Polly) RADFORD-1348

License #1019 granted to Mary Radford and John Oaks in Perry County, AL.  Marriage date unknown.

John DOWDEN

Various records are included below which reflect the presence of Dowden's in MD.  These are for my research - they may be sons/grandsons of our John Dowden.  They were obtained from the online Maryland State Archives at: http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/megafile/msa/speccol/sc2900/sc2908/html/search.html

A Petition from JOHN DOWDEN of Montgomery County was laid before the Board, setting forth that he was presented for selling Spiritous Liquors, and four several fines of six hundred pounds of Tobacco each imposed on him by Montgomery County Court, that he had sold Spiritous Liquors some little time before the Court; and was informed by several of his neighbors that he might do it with propriety, provided at the next Court he would take out and pay for a License, that he accordingly applied to the adjourned Court and obtained a License commencing March 1784 and to continue 'till August following, which he conceived was fully complying with every requisite, that he is in low Circumstances, has a large Family to maintain and but little other Dependance for their support than his Labour, and the levying the said fines would be highly distressing to him and his family, prays they may be remitted, and five of the Justices
of the said County [p 10] having certified that the facts stated in his Petition are true, and recommending a Remission of his said fines, this Board are of Opinion that they be remitted, and do order and direct a Remission accordingly.
